The visit on September 6-7 at the invitation of President Trần Đại Quang, was the first made by a State leader of Egypt to Việt Nam since the two countries established diplomatic relations on September 1, 1963.
During the visit, the two State leaders discussed ways to boost bilateral ties and organize activities to celebrate the 55th anniversary of diplomatic ties next year and provide mutual support at the UN.

They agreed to augment cooperation in various fields and work closely for progress and prosperity in each region. They affirmed the importance of strengthening international cooperation in combating terrorism and their determination to work for a maritime order in line with the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
The leaders pledged to create the best conditions for businesses of both sides to access the respective markets, aiming to raise two-way trade to 1 billion US dollars in the near future.

The two presidents witnessed the signing of nine cooperation agreements on trade, investment, tourism, culture, maritime transport and fishing, as well as a memorandum of understanding between Vietnam’s Ministry of Planning and Investment and the Egyptian department in charge of the expansion of the Suez Canal, a project that will play a key role in global trade.
